  • jetlagged to the hilt after flying home from San Francisco. first time I’ve switched on my PC at 4am since… ever. can’t say I recommend it #
  • interested in visiting #California? I’m just back from a 3 week roadtrip there and about to bore you with some hidden gems and highlights… #
  • when in #LosAngeles, check out the rooftop pool, bar and restaurant at Le Parc Suites Hotel in West Hollywood: fab views of #Hollywood Hills #
  • in #LosAngeles, we stayed at #TheCharlie, a secret, exclusive and cult hotel made up of private bungalows once owned by #Chaplin (more next) #
  • #TheCharlie doesn’t advertise, but insteads promotes itself through word-of-mouth and reviews in Vogue, CondeNast Traveller etc. incredible #
  • #TheCharlie’s bungalows were where old Hollywood’s stars went to party in secret in the 1920s - 50s, everyone from Clark Gable to Monroe #LA #
  • in #LA, lunch at classic restaurant The Palm, where the walls are covered with signed pics of #Hollywood stars through the ages. old-school! #
  • still in #LA, find the best Chinese food in #California at Genghis Cohen, a cool, laidback place a few blocks from Sunset Boulevard #
  • #Pismo, halfway btween #LA and #SanFrancisco is the quintessential California beach town and very beautiful. stay at lovely Shorecliff Lodge #
  • east from Pismo is #PasoRobles, an upcoming #winery area, with lots of boutique vineyards. #CarmodyMcKnight is worth a visit, stunning wines #
  • from Paso Robles, head to #Carmel via #BigSur, the most dramatic three hours of coastline in the world and jaw-droppingly beautiful #
  • … but on the way to Big Sur, detour to the tiny, picturesque town of #Cambria, if only to stare jealously at the upmarket beachside homes #
  • in #Carmel, everyone heads to the upscale boutiques of Ocean Drive, but the beach at the end is better: wild, undeveloped, amazing at night #
  • #Sonoma is much more interesting than Napa, and more informal, less snobby about their wines and vineyards: stay in Santa Rosa to be central #
  • in #Sonoma, visit #Benziger winery for a tractor-pulled tour around the vines! do the VIP tour at #Korbel Champagne: fascinating and delish! #
  • #Sonoma county is quite big but the Russian River Valley has everything: wineries, hotels, and the river for rafting, kayaking, swimming etc #
  • #LakeSonoma’s gorgeous and you can hike or horseride in the hills around it. also, Healdsburg town is picture-perfect, like a movie #Sonoma #
  • just outside #SanFrancisco, we stayed at one of the most amazing places I’ve ever stayed in my life: #CavalloPointLodge (cavallopoint.com) #
  • very Californian (in a good way), laidback, slightly hippyfied but also super-luxurious, #CavalloPoint has views to die for & a glorious spa #
  • from #SanFran, head out to posh coast towns of #Marin and #Sausalito for great seafood, shops and fab views across to the city, and Alcatraz #
  • also worth a shout-out in #LA: The Getty Villa for art and coast views, #Sprinkles Cupcakes off Rodeo (try the Red Velvet) and the Urth Cafe #
  • @kellyrose was there an actual head in the box along with it…? in reply to kellyrose #
  • dear #VirginMobile, your customer service is a joke. and your ‘hold’ music sounds like a bunch of kids playing recorders in school assembly #
  • oh, and #VirginMobile, 11 minutes on hold and counting, and I’m yet to speak to anyone. wasn’t this bad when Branson ran it… #
  • @RossMc11 thanks for tip. here’s one of my own: never phone a call centre to complain about something when you have jet-lag. shoutfest ahoy! in reply to RossMc11 #
